Polyvagal-Inspired Yoga
A Journey to Inner Resilience
Discover a unique approach to yoga that connects ancient practices with modern neuroscience. Polyvagal-Inspired Yoga is more than a physical practice—it’s a pathway to understanding and regulating your nervous system, fostering resilience, and restoring harmony in your mind and body.
What is Polyvagal-Inspired Yoga?
Rooted in the groundbreaking Polyvagal Theory by Dr. Stephen Porges, this practice integrates yoga with an understanding of the vagus nerve—the body’s key regulator of safety and connection.
At the heart of Polyvagal-Inspired Yoga is the acronym SAFE:
S for Safety: All deep nervous system healing and regulation occur in safety. Safety is the first priority, creating a secure and supportive space for exploration.
A for Awareness: Cultivating mindful presence to notice sensations, emotions, and thoughts without judgment.
F for Free Movement: Encouraging gentle, intuitive movement to release stored tension and foster flow.
E for Embodiment: Helping you reconnect with your body as a source of wisdom, resilience, and healing.
While terms like "inner harmony" and "balance" can feel like empty jargon, Polyvagal-Inspired Yoga focuses on something much deeper: building a regulated nervous system. This doesn’t mean striving for constant calmness or avoiding life’s challenges. Instead, a regulated nervous system gives you the capacity to handle all of life’s experiences—the joy, the pain, the fear, and the uncertainty.
With a regulated nervous system, you expand your window of tolerance: the ability to manage a wide range of emotions and stressors without feeling overwhelmed or shutting down.
Who is it For?
his practice is especially beneficial for those who:
Feel stuck in patterns of stress or overwhelm.
Experience symptoms of anxiety, trauma, PTSD, CPTSD or dysregulation.
Seek a gentle, compassionate approach to healing.
Want to deepen their understanding of the mind-body connection.
What Can You Expect in a Class?
Polyvagal-Inspired Yoga sessions are intentionally slow and trauma-sensitive, with a focus on SAFE principles:
Safety: Practices to anchor you in the present moment and create a sense of security—the foundation for all healing.
Awareness: Breathwork and mindfulness exercises to enhance self-understanding.
Free Movement: Intuitive, free flowing movements to release tension and foster connection.
Embodiment: Guided relaxation to help you fully inhabit your body and cultivate resilience.
Each class offers a supportive space to explore, release, and grow your capacity to navigate life’s highs and lows.
Why Polyvagal-Inspired Yoga?
Unlike traditional yoga classes, this practice goes beyond the poses. By addressing the nervous system directly, it helps you:
